This is a very easy project that is made from an old quilt. I sometimes find old ragged quilts at thrift stores or yard sales that are too worn to use so I have come up with lots of ways to salvage them. This is one of my favorite projects because I feel like I’m saving something very special. I grew up in a family of quilters and (thankfully) learned the art of quilting. Because of that, I know the amount of time, work and love that someone put into each quilt I find. This is a small way to honor that person and make something very special for your home at the same time.
Materials:
- an old quilt (you can use a new quilt if you don’t mind cutting it up.)
- mini clothespins
- string
Step 1.
Cut out cardboard heart and use it to trace shape onto back of old quilt.
Step 2.
Cut out enough hearts to make your garland.
Step 3.
Pin hearts onto string using mini clothespins. I painted mine white and glued on red hearts but you can buy these pre made if you like at any craft store. You can also pin them together or sew a fabric strip or string onto each heart and tie them together.
