Magnetic words tin made from Altoids can.

This project is a great one to do with kids.  You can let them help you sand the tin and then type in the words you want to use on your computer.   You can also print up some clip art for even more fun.  This is a very easy and inexpensive project that can actually help your child improve their reading and sentence skills.  This is also a good one to take on car trips.

Materials:

  • Tin cannister such as the kind Altoids come in.
  • A roll of magnet tape with adhesive on one side.
  • Spray paint

 Step 1.

Rough up the surface of tin with sandpaper.  This will help the paint adhere to the metal.

Step 3.

Type words or sentences using Microsoft Word and then print them up on regular printer paper.  You can have your kids come up with words they would like to make sentences with.  It’s also  fun to do themes such as weather,  school,  animals,  gardening etc….

Step 4.

Cut the lines of words into strips that will fit onto the magnet strip you purchased.  ( I used half inch for mine.)  Peel back the paper on the magnet strips and carefully position the paper strips onto the sticky side of the magnetic tape strip.

About Elaine Kazinec

I have never met anyone who can't make wonderful things for their homes, friends, and family, only those who think they can't. The purpose of this blog is to show everyone how really simple most projects for the home are to make. When my husband and I bought our first home we were short on cash so I learned to be long on creativity. I have been told that I can make something wonderful out of nothing and that is true. You can too! Some of my favorite things are items that I found in someone's junk pile. I am going to show you how easy it really is. I hope you find the courage to jump in and attempt some of these projects. You will be amazed at how talented you really are.
