Decorative picture frame bulletin board.

I made this bulletin board for my grandaughters room in hopes that it will cut down on clutter. I used an ugly old picture frame that was made from something like styrofoam. I just painted it and covered the back piece. If  you can find a cheap frame this is a very inexpensive project and adds a nice touch to a girls bedroom.

Materials:

  • picture frame or bulletin board
  • approx 1 yard of fabric
  • ribbon
  • scrapbook paper fasteners
  • glue gun or staples
  • approx 1 yard of quilt batting
  • primer and spray paint if needed for frame

Step 1.

Cut a piece of quilt batting that is slightly larger than your back piece.  Pull it snugly as you glue or staple the edges to keep it smooth in the front.  Trim excess away.

Step 2.

Cut a piece of fabric that is slightly larger than your back piece and cover it with the fabric covering the batting and gently stretching it to fit snugly so it will be smooth in the front. Glue or staple it into place.

Step 3.

Lay out pieces of ribbon in a diagonal pattern marking them about 3″ apart. Then lay more pieces of ribbon across those going the opposite way.  Pin them into place.  Turn the back over and glue all the ribbon ends down firmly.

Step 4.

Insert a scrapbooking paper fastener through both ribbons at each crossing point as shown.

Step 5.

Glue the back piece into the frame.
